Harrison Chiang is a rising young composer and well-versed instrumentalist from Corona, CA. He graduated from Santiago High School and is currently studying Music Composition at the Thornton School of Music at the University of Southern California. He has composed numerous works for wind bands, many arrangements and original works for clarinet choir, arrangements for marching band, and a variety of chamber and solo works. As an instrumentalist, he primarily performs on bass trombone and tuba, but has a deep interest for low clarinets and has also performed extensively on alto, bass, contra-alto, and contrabass clarinets.
Premiere performance by Santiago High School Festival Winds on May 8th, 2024
An extremely challenging undertaking, but what an unforgettable experience the journey preparing for this performance was. The instrumentation is pretty wild too (solos for piccolo, bassoon, Eb clarinet, alto clarinet, bass clarinet, contrabass clarinet, soprano sax, tenor sax, trombone, tuba, etc.)
Version for clarinet choir, recorded and performed by me
This work is scored for Eb Clarinet/Solo Bb Clarinet, 3 Bbs Clarinets, 2 Alto Clarinets, 2 Bass Clarinets, 1 Contra-alto Clarinet, and 1 Contrabass Clarinet. The low clarinets have many featured moments and passages, and a particularly unique feature of this piece is the use of independent contra-alto and contrabass parts.

Check out the revolutionary low C extensions built for contra-alto and contrabass clarinets! Many more projects soon to come, including necks, bells, barrels, and hopefully much more!
